Shikuramen, "Yatagarasu" { kanji / romaji / translation }

Artist: シクラメン (Shikuramen)
Song Title: 八咫烏 (Yatagarasu; Three-Legged Crow)
Album: Surume 4
Track Number: 9
Released: 2016
Lyrics By: DEppa

Requested by chrisk69. Title refers to Asian mythology of the three-legged crow, which represents the sun. And, of course, bushido is the samurai way of life.

Kanji Romaji English Translation

Even though that road is concrete now,
it was a dirt road 150 years ago.
In the castle town called “Edo,”
the samurai kept a close watch.

Night after night, corrupt merchants
secretly give snack boxes to the evil deputies.
While saying, “You’re wicked, too,”
they laughed with a bold voice.
Things will never ever change;
evil is still evil.

Awaken it, recall it,
that sleeping spirit (bushido).
Stand up! Greet it!
Based on the name of faith!

Our ancestors
could not win against the warriors
of other countries with height and strength,
but their hearts couldn’t be defeated by anyone.

Having faith in spiritual strength,
with patient fortitude,
this is certainly “the Japanese spirit.”
Because it is continuously inherited,
try to pound those fists on your chest.
Can you hear that hot heartbeat?

Awaken it, recall it,
that sleeping spirit (bushido).
Stand up! Greet it!
Based on the name of faith!

It’s been hundreds of years since those times,
we’ve accomplished so much till now.
Our leader who governs this nation has powerful charisma.
Even if there isn’t such an existence,
we encourage each other while supporting each other.
We must support this country!

Each person is a precious existence.
Everyone is a “treasure.”
Our hearts gather courage, challenging over & over!
We are young lions bearing our fangs!
We are as loud as Mt.Fuji!

Awaken it, recall it,
that sleeping spirit (bushido).
Stand up! Greet it!
Based on the name of faith!

Flap your wings in this world, now!
